HS baseball: Tottenville crushes Monroe, heads back to PSAL AAA title game

Tottenville coach Mike Grippo said it was the longest seven-inning game he’s

Tottenville coach Mike Grippo said it was the longest seven-inning game he's ever been a part of, and that's spanning about 42 years of playing and coaching.

Luckily, for him, his Pirates’ varsity baseball team emerged from the 3 hour, 30-minute affair on Saturday vs. host James Monroe with an 18-8 victory, which completed a sweep of the best-of-three PSAL AAA semifinal series. Tottenville won 3-2 on Friday in walk-off fashion.

The victory puts the No. 2-seeded Pirates in the PSAL AAA city title game on June 12 at 7 p.m. at Yankee Stadium vs. top-seeded Gregorio Luperon, which swept George Washington in their thee-game semifinal series.
